OUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION (ONC): Privacy Policy

OUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our website and that of our registered members/users and contributors. This policy explains what information we collect through the website as well as how that information is used.

 

 

SCOPE

This privacy policy is only applicable to ONC. ONC is not responsible for any information collected by other websites that are linked to ONC via articles, advertisements, etc., on OurNationalConversation.org and over which we have no control. We encourage users to review those websites’ privacy policies and consult them directly if you have any questions or concerns.

WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

You are not required to provide any personally identifiable information in order to view ONC. If you wish to register as a member/user of OurNationalConversation.org in order to have access to certain features, all you have to share is your first name, last name, email address and country of residence by using our secure online form. This information will never be disclosed to or shared with another party without your consent, unless ONC is legally bound to do so.

 

If you are selected to be an official editorial contributor for ONC, your name, bio links to your website and/or your social media handles will be included on your profile page (if you want them displayed). Your email address and phone number will be collected by us but they won't be displayed.

 

We need your contact information so we can get in touch with you quickly if there is a question about one of your articles.

 

Also, if you live in a town where some big news event is happening, we might contact you and ask you to cover it for us.

 

We don't allow anonymous postings unless we agree to that, in advance, and only for really good reasons.

 

ONC allows registered members/users to submit comments on subject matter covered by the website. Commenters should be aware that the screen or user name, or other information they choose to make public when they registered to submit comments will be posted with their comment. If you want people to know your social media handles, you can include them.  Email addresses will not be disclosed.

 

ONC enlists the aid of various analytical tools to collect general usage statistics about our site. The goal is to glean insights that will result in a better user experience. While we will learn your user preferences over time, we won’t reveal those individual preferences to advertisers or others.

 

But please note: We aren't tracking you for the purpose of placing stories or ads in front of you that we think you might want to see.  For example, if you are a political conservative, we aren't going to show you only content or ads from conservative-friendly sources. 

 

We think all visitors should be exposed to the full range of content and advertising.  So everyone sees the same thing when they visit OurNationalConversation.org.

 

If we use Google Adsense or a similar ad-serving service to place advertisements on our site, these outside entities might track your clicking behavior.  We can't control that.  You might be able to block this using ad-blocker technologies, often found within today's web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.).

 

Only you (or one of our editors) can update or edit or delete your information page at ONC. This can be done at any time.

 

WHAT WE DO WITH YOUR REGISTRATION INFORMATION

 

Once you sign up, you will automatically be enrolled to receive our newsletter.  We hope you will give it a fair shake.  But if you don't want to receive it, just unsubscribe.  Over time we will add new newsletters on different topics for your consideration.

 

Cookies will be used to automatically "remember" you when you arrive at our page.  

 

If you delete your account, we will delete any information we have about you immediately. If we delete your account, any articles you have written will disappear and will not be retrievable.

 

So think first before you delete your account, because once you do, are your articles will disappear and you’ll need to go through the sign-up process again if you choose to return. 

 

If ONC is sold or merged into another company or nonprofit -- not in our current plans -- we will notify our users on our site and users will have five working days to delete their information if that’s what they want to do.

 

If ONC closes permanently -- also not in our plans -- user information will be deleted within 10 days of a final decision to close. If for some reason we close temporarily, we’ll keep user information intact in the hope that there will be as little disruption to service as possible.  

 

Although ONC will do its utmost to keep your information secure, it cannot be held responsible for information lost to a data breach, hack or cyber-attack .

 

CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY

 

If ONC changes its privacy policy, we will change it here and alert readers via a post on our site.  If you are concerned about privacy issues, we urge you to consult this page once in a while. We will assume, if you continue to use the site, you agree to the changes. If you don't agree with our privacy policy, your best course of action is to drop out of the site. 

 

If you want to leave ONC and want to be sure we've deleted your information, send an email to info@OurNationalConversation.org.
