While irregular immigration has some positives for developed nations, such as combatting low birth rates and potentially boosting some aspects of the economy, it may also create issues. If left unchecked, the effects may be detrimental to the nation's future.
Initially, illegal immigrants are a net fiscal negative, meaning they receive more in government services then they pay in taxes. The same is actually true for the lower classes of American citizens. Mass immigration is expanding the lower class just as the middle class is rapidly fading out of existence, accelerating the nation's problems.
The middle class will soon be gone. The younger generations of Americans are doomed to combat a brutally expensive housing market, stagnant wages relative to productivity, a rising cost of living and a barren wasteland of a job market. Things are not looking up as it is.
A 2024 Gallup poll shows that 55% of Americans say they want to curb immigration, as opposed to only 41% last year - a 14% increase in just twelve months. Americans have noticed a problem.
An Uncomfortable Truth
Nation comes from the latin root nat- meaning born. A nation’s culture, economy, politics and its future are all determined by the composition of its people. A change in the people, especially a drastic one, affects the future in unpredictable ways - especially in a democratic nation.
Additionally, there are no referendums held by state or local governments on immigration. The lack of a popular vote means the citizens are subjected to swift and significant societal changes without any voice in the matter. Only the government can combat immigration.
Furthermore, most illegal immigrants are unskilled workers. Meaning that the supply in the unskilled labor force is increased and the demand for labor reduced. This directly affects lower class and marginalized Americans who cannot afford to attend universities and who find themselves in the unskilled workforce. Trade-trained Americans are forced to compete with potentially reduced wages and a sudden increase of workers who are often willing to work for less than legal minimum wages.
Mulling Over Migration
The topic of illegal immigration is crucial because it dictates two consequential outcomes: the composition of the next generation's citizenry and the supply of workers in the labor market.
In the United States, the children of immigrants are citizens upon birth. Generally, immigrant populations reproduce at a much higher rate than American citizens. In 2023, 4 million illegal immigrants crossed into the United States. That is more than one percent of the nation’s population being absorbed in 2023 alone.
Accounting for the approximate 330 million citizens in the U.S. currently, combined with the birth rate of 1.6 children per woman, there will be 366 million citizens in 10 years from now. However, if the trend of 4 million immigrants per year persists in that same time, including the estimated 2.1 children per immigrant woman, there would be about 82 million illegal immigrants including their descendants in a decade. Nearly a quarter of the nation would be derived from illegal immigration.
But why should we care about illegal immigration? Why do we have regulated borders? Because we should care about upholding the sovereignty, security and integrity of the nation. Moreover, economic and cultural preservation methods are crucial, and they contribute to the endurance of the nation's quality of life.
The rate of immigration currently occurring does not allow for effective assimilation and integration. It is demographic shock therapy, which yields unprecedented consequences.
A Noble Cause With an Undesirable Outcome
This article is not intended to promote any notion of cultural of racial purity, as such ideas are naturally appalling and moronic. Taking in asylum seeking immigrants is noble. Aiding those who are fleeing persecution or unbearable hardships is not malicious. The problem is not people in need, it is the tangible effects of unregulated immigration.
The propaganda of the American Dream is a mirage of hope, one which most American citizens are rendered unable to achieve, much less those who are illegal immigrants. The current difficulties the nation faces will be exacerbated if this problem continues as is.
Mass illegal immigration will accelerate the imminent destruction of America as we know it. Immigration does not need to be completely halted, but it must be controlled and strategically implemented with care. Both current and future Americans depend on it.
